‘…this election has also shown that politics is starting to become more than Covid-focused, a relief after so long being told that was all that mattered. Labour’s long-standing disdain for working-class people, its putative base – as exemplified by its attitude to Brexit voters and its choice of Hartlepool candidate – deserved to be punished and was. The bitter take by many in Labour that the Tories “have parked the tanks on our lawn”, talking about great swathes of the country as ‘their territory’, has rightly been renounced as yet more evidence that ANY party that thinks it owns voters is in for a rude awakening…’
